Sikh Regiment has emotional link with Punjab : Minister
Ramgarh, Nov 8 (UNI) '' The Sikh Regiment (SR) jawans are renowned for their bravery in most difficult situations in the past and they will never hesitate to take bullets on chest, '' averred Punjab Minister Capt Kamaljit Singh here today.
Capt Singh said the regiment was linked to Punjab and hence the state government had taken a lot of care for the jawans to keep their morale high.
The Punjab Minister was here to take part in 12th Post War Re-union and 33rd Battalion Commanders' Biennial Conference, which concluded here yesterday.
Addressing a press conference here after attestation parade of 240 jawans, Capt Singh said he had worked with the regiment for nine years and recalled with pride that the SR jawans captured the Tiger Hills during the Kargil War.
On many occasions, the SR jawans were sent to various parts of the country but the soldiers always returned triumphantly, he said.
Referring to new recruits, he said 240 dedicated jawans would add to the strength of the country's defence.
On the Punjab government's concern for the SR jawans, he said the state government bore expenses mainly on areas like widow pension, education and medical to boost the jawans' spirits.
