National Youth Festival at Amritsar in January

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (UNI) The Punjab Government will host the 14th National Youth Festival at Amritsar from January 12 to 16.

An announcement to this effect was made by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here yesterday while presiding over a high level review meeting to finalise the arrangements for this mega-Youth Festival.

An estimated 3000 participants along with officials and supporting staff from all over the country were expected to participate in this event.

Mr Badal said state government would ensure free boarding and lodging to all the visiting students/participants and staff besides, transportation facility to enable them to visit tourist places of interest.

He directed all departments concerned to work in unison with the Punjab Youth Services Department and make elaborate arrangements for the success of the Festival and gave his approval for constituting 12 sub-committees.

He also directed the administration to setup a control room at Amritsar to provide all necessary information and assistance to the visitors and participants. Mr Badal also asked the Guru Nanak Dev University to reschedule its holidays in view of this mega event so that the premises of university could be utilised for this event.

Prominent among those present in the meeting included, Sports and Youth Services Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, Chief Secretary R I Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister D S Guru, Principal Secretary Sports and Youth Services RPS Pawar, Principal Secretary Information and Public Relations and Transport D S Jaspal, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs Swaran Singh and Director Youth Services Hirdepal.
