Madurai, Nov 8: Senior MDMK leader Veera Elavarasan, MLA died of heart attack at a private hospital here this morning.
He was 48 and is survived by his wife E. Manickavalli, one daughter and one son.
Elavarasan was representing the Thirumangalam assembly constituency in Madurai district. He was a close associate of the party supremo Vaiko. Earlier, he was in DMK party, He joined MDMK when Vaiko launched the party moving away from the DMK.
He was admitted to Meenakshi Mission Hospital here on November 5 after he suffered a cardiac arrest and has been on ventilator. His condition became worse this morning. Doctors treating Mr Elavarasan declared him dead at 1040 hrs.
A native of Pallapatti village in Madurai district, Mr Elavarasan was born on January 2, 1960.
Mr Vaiko, along with senior MDMK leaders and a large number of party workers were in the hospital to receive the body. His body would be taken to his native village for cremation, party sources said.
Senior leaders of the party expressed shock at the passing away of Mr Elavarasan.
