Imphal, Nov 8 (UNI) The economic blockade on NH 39 passing through Manipur has affected normal life in the state.

Demanding repair of the highway, Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) had imposed economic blockade from Nov 2.

Following the blockade over 200 trucks were stranded on the highway and the drivers were facing untold misery.

Considering the hardship of the drivers the trucks were allowed to move towards Imphal yesterday.

The SDSA spokesman said that the blockade is still continuing and only passenger bus services would be allowed to move on the highway.

The SDSA members were also checking inter-state busses plying on the highway to know if the vehicles were carrying any goods for commercial purposes.

Following the blockade prices of essential commodities has sky rocketed and oil pumps were randomly closing down due to shortage of petroleum products.

Meanwhile official sources said that the state Works Minister K Ranjit, Education Minister L Jayenta and MLA, K Raina have gone to Senapati district to see the works taken up on NH-39. They are expected to meet the members of the SDSA for the talk, sources added.
