New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Terming Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's speech inside the Mosque at Moti Lal Nehru Marg during Friday prayers yesterday as a violation of the election code of conduct, the BJP today demanded that the Election commission debar her from contesting the election.
In a statement issued here, the BJP Delhi Pradesh Spokesperson Mewa Ram Arya condemned the Chief Minister for her political speech inside the Mosque at Moti Lal Nehru Marg and seeking votes for the Congress during the Friday prayers. He demanded the Election Commission to take appropriate action against Ms Dikshit and debar her from contesting election for her violation of the election code of conduct.
Mr Arya said Muslims in large number had gathered in the Mosque near the Congress Headquarters on Friday for prayers when Ms Dikshit suddenly entered the Mosque at the time of prayers.
In protest, many Muslim leaders walked out of the Mosque. Many office bearers of the Mosque condemned this action of Ms Sheila Dikshit. They told that the Chief Minister should not have done like this and should not have used religious place for political publicity.
''This action of the Chief Minister of Delhi shows her panic and hence, she has violated the code of conduct by seeking vote at a religious place after the notification of election. Perhaps she has forgotten this, Mr Arya said and demanded that the Election Commission take appropriate action in this regard.
