Bomb-like object creates panic in Silchar
Silchar, Nov 8 (UNI) Panic gripped a market in Assam's Cachar district today when people found an object covered with plastic and electric wire near the railway tracks on Silchar-Lumding route.
However, on investigation police did not find anything suspicious. People in the Srikona market area on the outskirt of Silchar town closed their establishments, and traffic on the Silchar-Mohanpur road was stopped after a person spotted the object near the railway tracks.
The 0591 Lumding-Silchar Special passenger train was stopped by local people.
Police rushed to the spot after locals informed them.
The Army was also called on.
After a nine-hour search, the squad of 18th Engineers' Regiment of the Mashimpur-based 57 Mountain Division of the Army found that the object was a bundle of electric circuit and ashes.
''After it was taken away and checked it turned out to be a bundle,'' said additional Superintendent of Police (Cachar) Pradeep Ranjan Kar.
It was the handiwork of some miscreant out to create panic after the October 30 serial blasts in the state, he added.
