369 women candidates in fray in MP
Bhopal, Nov 8 (UNI) A record number of 369 women were among 4505 candidates who filed their nominations for the assembly elections in 230 constituencies of Madhya Pradesh as filing of nominations closed, official sources said.
In 2003 election, only 3061 nominations had been filed. Of them, 564 were rejected during scrutiny, while 326 withdrew from the contest.
Election office today said the highest number of 44 candidates, including 3 women, filed papers from Sirmour(Rewa) from where former Assembly Speaker Shriniwas Tiwari(Congress) was in the fray. In contrast, only 7 nominations had been filed from Harsud(ST) in Khandwa district.
As many as 15 male candidates had lined up to take on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Budhni(Sehore).
While scrutiny of nominations is scheduled today, November 10 is the last date for withdrawal.
