Unidentified persons set afire coop dy registrar's office
Sangli, Nov 7 (UNI) Some unidentified persons, demanding better price for cane farmers, set ablaze a portion of the cooperative deputy registrar's office at Islampur in the district.
Police sources said that some persons, gathered near the office, and set on fire office windows as well as wooden material this morning.
People, seeing the flames, rushed to the site and put off the fire, police sources said adding no arrests have been made in this connection so far.
Meanwhile, Shetakari Sanghatana (SS) led by Raghunathdada Patil accepted the responsiblity for the incident, charging that the office was biased against farmers.
The deputy registrar's office promptly issued notices to the farmers about their bank loand and debt, but did not make efforts to ask the sugar factories to pay proper price to the sugarcane supplying farmers, Mr Patil charged while talking to reporters.
