Tripura demands exerting pressure on Bangladesh

Agartala, Nov 7 (UNI) The Tripura government has placed the detailed list and locations of Northeastern militants' hideouts in Bangladesh while demanding the Centre to exert pressure on the neighbouring country to demolish them.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Tripura Chief Secretary Shasi Prakash said Northeastern militants were still using Bangladesh hideouts for guerilla training and terror planning against India.

Mr Prakash had placed the demand at the high-level security review meeting on November 5, chaired by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan on the Northeast with police chiefs and chief secretaries of the region.

According to report, as many as seven militant camps were active in different locations of Bangladesh. While earlier the number was more than 50, after sustained pressure from Indian authorities, Bangladesh had demolished most of them in the past two years, Mr Prakash pointed out.

Referring to the decisions of the meeting, he pointed out that the meeting had resolved to effect better coordination among the police and internal intelligence agencies in the Northeast, besides frequent exchange of information regarding militants' movements in the region as well as increasing the strength of the BSF in Assam, Meghalaya Mizoram and Tripura.

''Bangladesh is not pro-active against the anti-Indian forces, which has now become a major security concern in Northeastern states and despite repeated demands from NE states, the issue has not yet been resolved,'' Mr Prakash underlined.

It was also revealed in the meeting that the serial blasts in Assam were reportedly carried out by the Bangladesh-based HuJI in coordination with local outfit ULFA while the attacks in Agartala were attributed to the All Tripura Tiger Force-ULFA combine.

The report also stated that global terrorists like Pakistan-based ISI, Al-Qaida and Bangladesh-based HUJI activists were using Sonamura, Agartala and Kailashahar of North Tripura and Karimganj and towns of upper Assam for entering India and most of these extremists did not possess passport.
