Pakistan congratulates Obama on Presidential victory
Islamabad, Nov 7 (UNI) The Pakistan government today congratulated the US president-elect Barack Obama on his victory in the November 4 presidential election, calling the event as "historical" for the American people.
''The people and the Government of Pakistan extend their congratulations to Senator Barack Obama for winning the landmark elections,'' Foreign office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said in a statement issued here.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf raza Gilani have also addressed messages of congratulations to both the President and Vice-President-elect.
He added that Pakistan and the United States had long enjoyed a strategic and friendly partnership.
''We look forward to working closely with the new Administration and further strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and the United States as two democratic allies and partners,'' he said.
He said Pakistan would remain engaged in expanding cooperation for a stable, long term and broad-based strategic relationship serving the interests of the region and the world at large.
