Obama's win is victory of marginalised people: Meira

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Minister for Social Justice&Empowerment Meira Kumar today hailed the election of Barack Obama as first Afro-American President of United States as a victory of marginalised sections of the society.

The elections has been a historic win not only for Mr Obama, but also for the underprivilged people all over the world, she said.

Ms Kumar was interacting with a group of 27 students under the civic action programme conducted by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the North East.

The education excursion is a step of ITBP to make the girl students from the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh familiar with the rest of the country and to make them feel its integral part.

With a view to instilling national pride, security consciousness and to improve quality of life of the border population, various community welfare programmes under Border Area Development Programme ( BADP)&Civic Action Programme (CAP) are being carried out in Western, Middle and Eastern Sectors of Indo-China border.

Excursion tours for students of border areas, various Medical camps, Veterinary camps, construction of roads&tracks, construction and repair of school buildings, bus stands,temples, bridges and plantation of trees are undertaken under the programme.

Lectures and classes are also being organised on the subjects like 'Adult Education, Family planning, Hygiene and Sanitation, Environment etc. For this purpose Rs. 25 lakh is earmarked every yera for BADP.
