Keralites to pay more for extra electric consumption
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7(UNI) Keralites will have to pay more for electricity, with the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) giving its nod to the State Electricity Board to hike the tariff for those who consume more electricity than the minimum fixed by the Board.
In an order issued by the SERC, the consumers, both domestic and industrial, would have to pay Rs 7.85 each additional unit, if they consume more than the minimum 200 units fixed per month.
The hike would be applicable with retrospective effect, the order said.
The industrial consumers would also pay the same cost to each additional unit consumed above 80 per cent.
According to the new order, the surcharge and restrictions on use of electricity would be applicable to Thrissur Municipality, Techno park, Thiruvananthapurm, Info Park Kakkanad and Tata in Munnar, besides Kerala State Electricity Board.
