Margao, Nov 7 (UNI) A keen battle will ensue when table toppers Sporting Club De Goa lock horns against defending champions Dempo Sports Club in the ONGC I league championship match at Nehru stadium Fatorda here tomorrow.
Both teams look well balanced, both on paper and performance, and will certainly go all out for points to improve their standing.
Sporting appears to be the current favourite, topping the table with 15 points having won five outings out of six against Vasco Sports Club, Mohammedans Sporting, Mohan Bagan, Mumbai Football Club and Chirag, but lost to Churchill Brothers by canceding three goals to nil.
While Dempo garnered only seven points from five outings with two wins, a draw and two defeats, it scored 8 goals and conceded equal number of goals. Dempo need to concentrate more on their defence as they have conceded 8 goals from five matches so far.
Sporting coach Vishwas Gawas said Dempo is a good team and had a lot of exposure with foreign teams during the AFC Cup ties, but presently in the league, it is struggling to improve its standing.
''My boys know that it is a crucial match and we will definately put up good show keeping in mind for full points, to maintain our position at the top the table. We have chalked out our strategy against Dempo tomorrow,'' the coach added.
Dempo Coach Arman Colaco said, ''Sporting is playing extremly well in the high profile league but we will make all out efforts to perform well. If the boys display the same performance put against Churchill brothers in the last match, it would not be a difficult task for us to prevail over Sporting Club De Goa. Dempo ace striker M boyo Iyomi who made a hat-trick against Churchill Brothers had combined well with Renty Martin and we hope the same combination continues tomorrow.'' UNI SRN SR RAR KP1511
