Eight BESU students remanded to jail custoday
Howrah, Nov 7 (UNI) The Chief Judicial Magistrate court today remanded eight Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) students to four-day judicial custody for indulging in violence in the campus.
Police said the students owing allegiance to the CPI(M)-backed Students Federation of India(SFI) and Independent Consolidation(IC) fought a pitched battle on Wednesday night following a scuffle between them during a match two days ago.
The IC students sat in protest against the arrest of their compatriots.
The RAF and police had been deployed to control the situation.
