Agartala, Nov 7 (UNI) Minister for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) Mani Shankar Aiyar today lauded the Tripura Government for utilisation of about 90 per cent fund of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR), sanctioned for the state in the last fiscal.

Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of foundation laying programme of manufacturing unit of parental drugs and injections, run by Kolkata-based Vedanta Medicare Pvt Ltd (VMPL) here, Mr Aiyar said Rs 800 crore from the NLCPR had been sanctioned for the state and Rs 700 crore had been spent so far.

'' DoNER is satisfied with the performance of the state and the absorptive capacity of fund, '' Mr Aiyar said adding the demand of placing the entire unspent fund, sanctioned to the region by various Ministries to make available the NLCPR, had become fruitful.

He, however, asserted that the DoNER had planned to invest Rs 1400,000 crore by the 13th Five year plan in the Northeast and the states had been asked to submit the project accordingly.

He said the DoNER would set up a technical wing for speedy disposal of fund after due examination of DPR.

Referring to the discussion of 56th NEC plenary session here, Mr Aiyar pointed out that comprehensive steps had been taken on as to how the fund allocations could be augmented, streamlined and made more effective for the overall development of the Northeast.

He felt that ten per cent increase in the allocation of fund from the non-lapsable pool for the region was necessary.
