BJP calls Alva's statement a 'confession'
New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The BJP today described the statement of Congress General Secretary Margaret Alva about the tickets for Assembly elections in five states distributed on cash as a 'confession of an insider'.
''Not too long ago, the Parliament had witnessed a 'cash for Vote' scam when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sought a vote of confidence and now we are seeing 'Cash for Ticket Scam' where the witness to the alleged charge is Margaret Alva herself, a senior Congress leader,'' BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy told newspersons here.
He said Mr Alva's statement amply displayed the state of affairs in the Congress party.
On the protest of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists in a Delhi University seminar, he said the party felt that the protest should have been more 'hygienic'.
''But notably something serious which has emerged in the University community meeting organised by a particular group is the coming together of pseudo-secular sympathisers and certain radical groups. More so, the clean chit apparently is not so clean and there did exist several incriminating evidence which had resulted in Geelani's conviction,'' Mr Rudy said.
He said Geelani's association with militants could not be denied and the surcharged emotions of patriotic students could not be simply ignored.
