Amruta to clash with top seed Ankita; Shahbaaz to take on Ronit

Pune, Nov 7 (UNI) West Bengal's Amruta Mukherjee will clash with top seeded Ankita Raina of Gujarat in the girls singles, while top seeded Shahbaaz Khan of Maharashtra will take on Ronit Bisht of Delhi in the boys singles at the Walchand Cup U-16 National Series Tennis Tournament here.

In the semifinals played today, local lad Shahbaaz ended the winning run of fourth seeded statemate Vishwesh Sinha 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, while second seeded Ronit avenged his brother's defeat accounting for Karnataka's Vinod Gowda 6-4, 6-0.

In the girls event, Ankita thwarted the spirit of unseeded Maharashtra player Rutuja Bhosale 6-3, 6-4 to set up a title clash with sixth seeded Amruta, who scraped past Andhra Pradesh player K Bhuvna 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Ankita also put herself in line for a double crown, as she lifted the girls doubles event partnering with local girl Vaidehi Bhagwat. The winners defeated the second seeded pair of Prathana Thombare and Namita Bal.

Brothers Ronit and Rohit Bisht lifted the doubles crown scoring a tough 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 over Vietla Sawan and Shahbaaz.

The winners got 75 points while the runners up received 50 points.
