Kochi, Nov 6 (UNI) The 'Usha School of Athletics' would be raised to Asian standards in the years to come, said Olympian P T Usha.
Speaking at a function here today, Usha said '' the school would be made one of the best institutions for training athletes in Asia, which would provide facilities to students to make them at par with athletes from other countries.'' ''My students should get international facilities for training and pratice, which I couldn't get in my days as an athlete,'' she noted.
The 'Usha School of Athletics' was started by the great athlete with a vision to produce potential athletes in the country.
At the function, Tata Steel Corporate Services Vice-President Partha Sengupta handed over keys of a 32-seater bus to Usha, which would be used for the school.
Mr Sengupta said '' the company has always believed in promoting sports and Tata Athletics Academy is a part of its main academy. We at Tata Steel aim at encouraging generation of athletes and continue to remain the future of hope for aspiring athletes of the country.'' At the function, awards were given to athletes T C Yohanan, Suresh Babu, Mercy Kuttan, Murali Kuttan, M V Ravikumar, Abraham Mathew, Satheesh Kumar, Satheesh Dutt and M A Asif for their immense contributions to the field of sports.
