Two SPOs among 16 injured in Jammu clashes

Jammu, Nov 6 (UNI) Two Special Police Officers (SPOs), among 16 people, were injured in different incidents in Jammu and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, sources here today said.

One SPO and around dozen people sustained injuries when they entered into a clash with the rival group on the last date of filing nomination papers in tehsil Darhal of Rajouri district.

''SPO of Congress candidate Thakur Puran Singh from Darhal constituency was among dozen persons, who were injured when they scuffled with the supporters of Independent candidate Iqbal Malik outside the office of Returning Officer yesterday,'' the sources told UNI.

Raising slogans in support of their respective candidates, hundreds of party workers and supporters assembled outside the office of the Returning Officer and locked into a clash, in which at least 12 people, including a SPO sustained injuries.

''The supporters from either sides pelted stones on each other and entered into a brawl,'' the sources said and added that police however, intervened and dispersed them.

The injured were later shifted to the district hospital, Rajouri.

Meanwhile in another incident, four people, including a SPO, were injured in a clash at village Majal Brahamana in Kanachak area on city outskirts.

The injured have been identified as SPO Vikram Singh, his brother Jeevan Singh, Shakti Kumar and Sunil Kumar- all residents of Majal Brahamana area,'' the police sources said adding that personal rivalry was the reason behind the clash.

The injured were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu while the police has registered a case.
