Moscow, Nov 6 (UNI) Russia today called for minimising foreign interference in the internal affairs of Lebanon.
''Moscow welcomes positive trends in Lebanon and calls for minimising foreign interference in Lebanese affairs,'' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Lebanese Parliamentary majority leader and son of the Lebanese late president Saad Hariri here.
''We value our dialogue on Lebanese affairs and bilateral relations. We welcome latest positive developments in Lebanon and will continue to support this trend,'' Mr Lavrov said.
''This process will strengthen the Lebanese statehood, sovereignty and unity, and this is our vital interest,'' he added.
''It is very important that positive changes have occurred thanks to the people of Lebanon. The less external interference in Lebanese affairs occurs the better,'' Interfax news agency quoted him as saying.
On his part, Mr Hariri noted the big role of Russia in positive processes in Lebanon. He also thanked Russia for the support in the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Syria.
The Lebanese leader expressed hope that Russia would play an active role in the return of Shebaa farms to Lebanon. The area had been occupied by Israel.
Mr Hariri thanked Russia for the assistance to the International Tribunal investigating the death of his father, Rafik Hariri.
