Punjab Cabinet approves thermal plant at Rajpura
Chandigarh, Nov 6 (UNI) In a major initiative to make Punjab a power surplus state, the state Cabinet today gave its approval in principle for setting up a 1200 MW Power Thermal Plant at Rajpura.
Work on the prestigious project is likely to be inaugurated on December 8.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the state council of ministers here this evening. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The Thermal Power Project would be now set up at Rajpura over an area 1078.16 acres on Built Own Operate (BOO) basis It may be recalled that the construction work on Talwandi Sabo Power Project and Goindwal Sahib Thermal Plant with an installed capacity of 1980 MW and 540 MW respectively is already in full swing and both these projects would be operational by December 2011.
