UP: 2 girls killed for eloping with their lovers

Noida, Nov 6: In a throwback to medieval times, two girls, who eloped with their lovers sometime ago, were on Thursday, Nov 6 shot dead by their family members here in what appears to be a case of honour killing.

Police have taken the bodies of both into custody and sent them for post-mortems.

They have arrested the brother, father and uncle of the deceased.

Due to this incident of ''honour killing'', there is tension prevailing in the area.

SP (Rural) Surendra Kumar Verma said Pinky (18) and Sonam (16), daughter and neice, respectively, of one Gopichand, who lived near Arya Samaj Mandir, Surajpur town, were shot dead this afternoon.

He also said during interrogation, it was revealed that a few days ago, both the girls had eloped with their lovers, due to which, their family members were very angry and took the extreme step.

Police have arrested Pinky's father Gopichand, brother Chandrapal and uncle Om Prakash (Sonam's father).

Upon hearing the news, a huge crowd had gathered at the crime scene and people were demanding that the accused be hanged.
