Home Ministry decides to upgrade Paswan's security
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The Home Ministry has agreed to bolster the security of Union Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan in the wake of the recent attack on his convoy in Midnapore district of West Bengal.
Mr Paswan and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had a narrow escape on November 2 when suspected Maoists triggered a blast below a bridge where their convoys were passing.
The Chief Minister's convoy was followed by that of the Union Minister. The explosion occurred when Mr Paswan's car had crossed the bridge.
Following this incident the Lok Janshakti Party headed by Mr Paswan had written a letter to the Home Ministry to enhance the security of its leader.
Earlier, the Ministry officials had said the security of the Union Minister, who already enjoyed 'Z' category security, could be enhanced after an assessment.
Now, sources told UNI that the Home Ministry has taken a decision to upgrade Mr Paswan's security.
