Guj humiliates Saurashtra, earns 6 points

Rajkot, Nov 6 (UNI) Gujarat beat Saurashtra by an innings and 227 runs on the last day of the four-day super league Ranji match at the MadhavRao Scindia Cricket stadium here today.

Gujarat earned six points by virtue of their outright victory over Saurashtra in the opening match.

Off-spinner Mohanish Parmar captured four wickets in the second innings for 30 runs from his 29 overs to bowl Gujarat into a match-winning position as the hosts were dismissed for 201 shortly after lunch today.

Medium pacers Siddharth Trivedi and Ashraf Makda took two and three wickets respectively, by giving away 42 and 51 runs.

Tail-ender Rakesh Dhruve had the top score for Saurashtra with an unbeaten 52 with the help of eleven boundaries.

Resuming at the overnight score of 74 for five, Saurashtra were shot out for 201 runs in their second essay.

In the first innings, they managed to score just 153 and caved in against Gujarat bowlers' incisive bowling.

Opener Kanaya Waghela, who resisted Gujarat's bowling attack for 281 minutes facing 188 balls scored 36 runs, laced with five fours, before he was removed by medium pacer Ashraf Makda.

Except Kanya Waghela and Rakesh Dhruve, no other batsmen played sensibly and surrendered to the bowlers at regular intervals.

Saurashtra, who could not earn any point from the opening match, will clash with Orissa here from November 10.

BRIEF SCORE: Gujarat (Ist Innings) 581 for six declared.
