Sambalpur, Nov 6 (UNI) Thousands of farmers today congregated at the foot of Hirakud dam reservoir and reiterated that the water should not be given to the industrial houses.
The farmers from all the 33 market yards of Sambalpur gathered to commemorate the completion of one year of the farmers' agitation and the police action on the agitating farmers at Burla on this day last year to celebrate 'Sankalpa Divas'.
Murari Purohit, a farmer, said in spite of all renovation works water did not reach the tail ends in most part of the command area.
Addressing the gathering, Lingaraj, a farmer said they would continue the agitation in a big way to safeguard the interest of the farmers.
This time plants like Bhusan, Vedanta, Rathi,Hindalco and other major ones would be the target, he said and demanded that a minimum support price of paddy to be fixed at Rs. 1200 per quintal and crop insurance to all farmers.
