Jammu, Nov 6: Campaigning for the Phase I Assembly election in bordering Poonch district, People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti cautioned voters not to get swayed by the 'evil designs' of political parties, who had devised a strategy of dividing people for political advantage. Ms Mufti exhorted the people to give a befitting reply to such forces were dividing the masses in the name of caste and communities.
''For years together some vested interests have been exploiting sentiments of the gullible people and it is high time to teach lesson to such forces as they are responsible for their backward,'' she said yesterday at the series of public meetings in Surankote and Mendhar constituencies in support of party candidates Dr Mumtaz Bukhari and Rafiq Hussain Khan. She promised that the PDP had promised to disband notorious STF and to violation of human rights at any cost.
Reiterating her party's commitment to remove regional disparities, Ms Mufti promised to make institutional arrangement to create equal opportunities in development and upliftment for all regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
''After formation of coalition regime in 2002 many steps were taken to remove regional imbalances,'' she said, adding ensuring an environment for people to live with honour and dignity is the main agenda of the PDP.
Ms Muti lambasting the National Conference (NC) for betraying people for the lust of power, and said, ''We are not for getting power by sacrificing wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.'' ''PDP, through its policies and programmes, convinced both India and Pakistan to take Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) and accelerate peace process in the sub-continent,'' she asserted during her whirlwind tour in bordering areas of Jammu, where polls are scheduled for November 17.
