Surat, Nov 06 (UNI) Surat police has set up four new police stations in the city at Khatodra, Amroli, Adajan and Puna, for facilitating crime detection.
Speaking at the inaugural function here yesterday, Gujarat Director General of Police P C Pandey said that due to fast expansion of the city and increase in population in recent years, new police stations were badly needed.
He said the staff recruitment process will be initiated and police department is only waiting for state government's nod.
''Inauguration of a police station is not good news for any society because it suggests that there is crime in the area and people are unsafe. But, police stations are needed and in future, more such police stations will be inaugurated to make this city crime free. Police stations can serve their purpose only through people's help and I hope that people will support our effort,'' Pandey added.
''We want the police department to go on-line like Western Countries where, citizens can register complains on-line. There are plans to install computers in every police station in the state within a year or two,'' Pandey said.
City Police Commissioner R M S Brar described the expansion as the biggest after a span of 15 years. He said that police department will start enrollment process of Police Inspectors, Police Sub-Inspectors and Police Constables in near future.
At present, staff is adjusted from existing police stations but their strength will be increased soon,'' Mr Brar added.
With the inauguration of four new police stations, the total number of police stations has gone upto 18.
