Tendulkar rested from first three ODIs against England; M Vijay in

By Staff

Nagpur, Nov 5 (UNI) The Indian selectors today decided to rest Sachin Tendulkar for the first three ODIs against England starting on November 14, while M Vijay who was called up for the fourth and final Test against Australia has been included in the team.

The national selectors, who met here, also left out S Badrinath who made his debut during the ODI series against Sri Lanka and was in the Test squad against Australia.

Making a comeback into the side is Yusuf Pathan, while Ishant Sharma who was rested for the Sri Lankan ODI series also returns to the side along with Virender Sehwag who missed the last ODI series due to injury.

Tendulkar had requested the selectors to exclude him from the squad to avoid burn-out. ''Considering the hectic schedule ahead and the amount of cricket he has already played this season, Sachin Tendulkar requested that he be rested for the first three ODIs,'' N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, said.

An elbow injury had forced Tendulkar out of the ODIs in Sri Lanka, where Badrinath replaced him. Tendulkar has not played an ODI since the CB Series in Australia in March this year.

Amit Mishra who made a good Test debut with a five wicket haul in the second Test against Australia, however, does not find a place in the ODI squad with Pragyan Ojha and Piyush Chawla being selected above him to partner Harbhajan Singh.

The ODI squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt&wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, R P Singh, Virat Kohli, M Vijay.
