New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) Indian Davis Cupper Somdev Devvarman overpowered American qualifier Travis Rettenmaier in straight sets to advance to the second-round of the 75,000 dollars ATP Challenger event in Nashville, US.
The Indian defeated the American 6-3, 6-2 in the first-round of the hard court event.
Somdev will now take on America's Sam Warburg, who defeated eighth seed Amer Delic 6-3 7-6 (8) in his opening-round match.
However, the Indian failed to qualify in the doubles event after national champion Ashutosh Singh and Harsh Mankad prevailed over Somdev and his Russian partner Izak Van Der Merwe 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-2 in the final round of the qualifying competition.
