Srinagar, Nov 5 (UNI) An alert patrol party of the Jammu and Kashmir police foiled an attempt by a software engineer to break an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) under the cover of darkness in the city.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, S A Mujtaba told mediapersons this afternoon that late last night a police patrol party noticed a group of two youths trying to break ATM of Jammu and Kashmir Bank near Islamiya College in the down town city.
When challenged they tried to escape but were overpowered by the police after a long chase, he said.
Mr Mujtaba said Altaf Hussain Nagoo, a resident of Hassanabad, Rainawari, a software engineer has acquired information from the internet how to open the ATM using logic codes.
However, when the codes did not work the accused used a hammer and other tools to break open the ATM.
His cousin Sameer Hussain Nagoo accompanied the accused, he said adding they ran away from the spot after challenged by police.
Case FIR No 86/08 U/S 45,380511 PRC has been registered in police station Nowhatta and investigations is are on.
