Moscow, Nov 5 (UNI) President Dmitry Medvedev today said Moscow would deploy the new short-range missile system Iskander in the Kaliningrad region, a Russian enclave between NATO members Poland and Lithuania, to ''neutralise'' the US missile defence plans.
''Radioelectronic equipment located in the western region of Russia, in the Kaliningrad region, will jam objects of the US missile defence system,'' Mr Medvedev said in his first address to the Federal Assembly, in the Kremlin.
''These are forced measures,'' Mr Medvedev said, adding, ''We have told our partners more than once that we want positive cooperation, we want to act together to combat common threats, that we want to act together. But they, unfortunately, don't want to listen to us.'' He said, ''We have an integration nucleus represented by the Union State of Russia and Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Community, and we will also intensify cooperation in the military and political areas in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.''
