Railways rides high on Yere Goud's ton

Bangalore, Nov 5 (UNI) An unbeaten century by Yere Goud (109) helped Railways to 340 for 7 in 136 overs in their first innings on the penultimate day of the Ranji Trophy League Elite Group B Match here today.

Resuming at a tricky 110 for 4, in pursuit of Karnataka's first innings total of 365, Railways made a gritty recovery with Goud leading the charge.

Left handed Raja Ali made a fighting 52 and his 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Goud helped Railways ensure equal honours.

Earlier, Railways Skipper Sanjay Bangar (84) and Goud stitched a 75-run partneship for the fifth wicket to take their team to safety.

Goud stood like a rock, while Karnataka bowlers played all the tricks in their bag.

The veteran batsmen played for 361 minutes facing 301 balls and hit 10 fours and three sixes.

Railways needs just 26 runs to gain the crucial first innings lead on the final day tomorrow in the match that is heading towards a tame draw.

The visitors, who resumed at 110 for 4, lost just three wicekts but took their own time adding 230 in 90.3 overs today.

Off spiners C Rabhu 2/67 and Sunil N Raju 2/106 toiled through the day but with little success.
