Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan today said the election of Mr Barack Obama as the 44th US President was historic from many angles as ''he has set a new trend in elevating politics above race and religion, presenting a powerful agenda and in campaigning and fund collection''.
Talking to mediapersons here, he claimed that unlike the traditional parties in India which revel in mobilising people for mammoth public meetings, Mr Obama communicated his message to the people in person and over television and radio.
He also set an example by collecting funds from ordinary people, carrying on the campaign in a dignified manner and in not attempting to divide the people on the grounds of race or religion or region, he added.
''Mr Obama's rival John McCain not merely accepted his defeat gracefully and without any rancour but also pledged his support to ''my new President.'' In contrasts, political parties in India are given to construing their rivals as enemies,'' he further said.
