Notification for Mizoram poll issued
Aizawl, Nov 5 (UNI) The election process for the December 2 Mizoram Assembly polls began today with the issuance of the poll notification by the election office here.
Issuing the notification, Chief Election Officer Lalmalswama informed that the last date for filing of nominations is November 12 and the scrutiny of nominations would take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 15.
Hectic political activity began in Mizoram with pre-poll alliances, seat-sharing talks and choosing of candidates.
Political analysts feel that the elections would be a triangular fight between the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the main opposition Congress and the newly formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The UDA was formed last month with the merging of the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNF) and the Zoram Kuthnathawktu Pawl (ZKP), a civic organisation.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a pre-poll alliance of the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and a non-political organisation Zoram Kuthnathawktu Pawl (ZKP) or Farmers' Union, has already announced its candidates for the coming state elections while the MNF will announce it tomorrow.
The Congress is also a considerable force and is expected to contest all the seats.
