Mysuru, Nov 5: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has said that it would launch an agitation in case the district administration refuses to pay compensation of Rs. 1.5 crore for each acre of land acquired for developing the second phase of Mandakalli Airport.

The district administration had acquired 735 acres of land for the purpose of developing the second phase of the Mandakalli Airport months before. It had initially offered Rs. 35 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh an acre of land acquired for the project. But farmers rejected the proposal. However, Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan announced Rs. 60 lakh an acre of vacant land acquired, besides a special package for the Dalits who stand to lose their source of livelihood.

But KRRS is not happy with the offer and is demanding Rs. 1.5 crore an acre as compensation, on the lines of the Punjab Government, which according to KRRS president K S Puttannaiah, has fixed the 'scientific price' keeping in view the market rate of the land in future. However, Mr. Manivannan has rejected the demand.
