Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) Bengal's woes continued before their Ranji Trophy campaign as opener Rohan Banerjee, who hit a ton at a friendly yesterday, was today dropped from the squad against Madhya Pradesh after being hit by a ball during fielding at Eden Gardens.
He was seriously injured on the right side of his neck and admitted to a nursing home, Cricket Association of Bengal officials said.
Rohan (20), who scored 123 in a two-day trial match against Rest of Bengal, was hit on his neck when Dibendu Charkaborty blasted at silly point. Though he was wearing his helmet, he fell flat for a few minutes and was rushed to a South Kolkata nursing home where he is recovering.
The immediate impact of his hospitalisation was his being dropped from the Bengal sqaud against Madhya Pradesh to be played in Gwalior on November 10.
Arindam Ghosh, who led the Bengal under-19 team last year, has been named in place of injured Rohan Banerjee.
Although Banerjee has been dropped for the first match in the Plate Group, CAB sources said he would be advised to rest for the second Ranji match too.
Bengal's Ranji campaign for November 3 against Assam was marred when the latter declined to hold the four-day match at Maligaon after serial blasts devastated the state, killing more than 80 people.
