New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) An Assistant Commandant of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi district this afternoon.

Mahendra Singh (45), native of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, was found dead amidst a pool of blood in his 'camp', next to Chanakyapuri police station, around 1500 hrs by a Constable, said the police.

He was sitting on a chair with blood oozing from his temple when found.

His colleagues said Mahendra came to the RAC 'camp' around 1200 hrs and then met Dy Commandant Shashi Joshi. From him he asked his service revolver on the pretext that he wanted to acquaint himself with some of its technicalities as he was to go abroad for some training.

Mahendra then went to a nearby porta cabin room saying he was not feeling well and not seen until about 1500 hrs.

After he was not seen for long, a Constable peeped through the window and found him bleeding from the temple.

Soon the police was informed which broke open the cabin door locked from inside.

In his suicide note, Mahendra said as he could not do anything for his parents and family he was ending his life and that no one should be held responsible for his 'deed'.

He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Sources said Mahendra, who joined Rajasthan Police in 1983, had been transferred to the RAC three months back and sent to Delhi just about a month back to the RAC's 12th Batttalion.

He had just returned from his home town Bharatpur on October 31 after Diwali vacations.
