Mysuru, Nov 4: November 14 will hopefully be real fun for schoolchildren here as the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysore zoo, has decided to make entry free for them on the day.

The occasion is obvious – Children"s Day – and the zoo authorities have said the initiative is intended to make the day special for children.

Zoo Director Vijayranjan Singh said schoolchildren up to the age of 10 years would be provided free entry to the zoo from 8.30 am. to noon. As the zoo was already allowing 50 students, accompanied by two teachers, free entry on every Tuesday, under the 'Zoo in-reach Programme', it had appealed to individual educational institutions to utilise this facility on any Tuesday with prior intimation. 'This will help avoid huge crowds and inconvenience to other visitors on November 14 and will be in the interest of the animals too," he said. This is not the first time the zoo is offering children free entry into its premises. The practice has been on for quite some time now. School teachers, who accompany the children, could utilise the opportunity to educate them on the importance of zoos and create awareness on the role they play in protecting nature and wildlife. One important thing which the children should be kept in mind is that the animals should not be fed or antagonised.
