Shillong, Nov 4: Mounting pressure to implement the Education Policy, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) an NGO, has called a two-day office picketing movement from Thursday, Nov 6 in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills areas of Meghalaya. The picketing will cover both the State and Central Government offices in Khasi Hills. However, educational institutions have been exempted. HNYF President G H Kharshanlor said the strike was called after the state government continued to delay the implementation of the new Education Policy.
''It is matter of shame for the State that even after 36 years of attaining statehood, it is still struggling to have an Education Policy in place. This clearly shows the lack of interest of our Legislators for the overall growth of the State,'' Mr Kharshanlor said.
Earlier, Higher and Technical Education Minister Manas Chaudhuri said the policy would be implemented at the earliest for the benefit of students and academicians.
He said the new State Education Policy would come into effect from the 2009 academic session.
