Chennai, Nov 4 (UNI) Continuing her tirade, opposition AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today alleged that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has taken up the Sri Lankan Tamils cause only to divert the people's attention from the unbridled price rise and unprecedented power crisis in the state.
In a statement here, she posed four questions to Mr Karunanidhi, whose party is a key ally of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, and accused him of not caring about the Lankan Tamils or their plight.
''At a time when the people of the state are disgruntled over the ineptitude of his government to handle issues like the price rise and power crisis, the Sri Lankan Tamils issue came as a Godsend for him to divert the public attention to a relatively distant issue'', she charged.
Observing that money was pouring in for the Sri Lankan Tamils Relief fund as people of the state were genuinely concerned about the suffering Tamils in Sri Lanka, Ms Jayalalithaa wanted to know what the Chief Minister was going to do with the money collected.
''Will he hand it over to the Sri lankan government and ask them to use it for the upliftment of Tamils or will he hand over the funds to the LTTE, or will he use the money to buy essentials for the Tamils and send them across'', she asked.
She also posed four questions to Mr Karunanidhi which she said remained unanswered.
She wanted to know what Mr Karunanidhi was doing when the Indian government supplied arms, ammunitions and sensitive equipments to Sri lanka and why did he remained silent when the Tamils were attacked in Lanka.
She also wanted to know what the Chief Minister, his DMK MPs and Ministers were doing when Indian scientists were sent to Lanka to help their army to install the equipment to use it against the Tamils and when the Lankan Government sent its army personnel to India for training by the Indian Army.
