Hon-Founder Secretary of GSSS Prof B S Pandit passes away

Mysuru, Nov 3: Prof. B.S. Pandit (72), Hon-Founder Secretary of Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha (GSSS) here, passed away on Monday, Nov 3 following a prolonged illness.

He was admitted to BM Hospital after he complained of respiratory problems.

He leaves behind wife K.V. Vanaja and two daughters Anjana Suresh and Anupama Bharat.

His body was brought to his residence in Siddharthanagar at the time we went to Press. His family is yet to decide on the last rites.

Profile

Bharadwaja Srikanta Pandit was born on June 1, 1936 to Seetharam Srikanta Pandit. An M.Sc (Physics), MISTE, he joined service in 1962 as Lec- turer. He later became Reader, Professor and Head of the Department of Physics in Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysore and retired in 1994, after serving for 32 years.

He served as NCC officer from 1964 to 1981 and retired as a Major in No. 2 Karnataka Engineering Battalion, Mysore. He also served as NSS officer for 2 years and as Hon. Secretary of Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha from 1971 to 1996.

Prof. Pandit was continuously elected as Director, Hon. Treasurer and President of The Graduates Co-operative Bank Ltd., Chamaraja Double Road, Mysore from 1967 to 1998.

He was also a Governing Council Member of Mahajana Education Society from 1974 till date and Managing Committee Member of Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions from 1984 to 1991 and its Secretary from 1989 to 1991.

He was the Hon-Founder Secretary of GSSS, Siddarthanagar, which runs the following institutions:

• Geetha Bharathi Primary School • Bantwal Madhava Shenoy High School • Badriprasadji Pre-University College • K. Narasaiah and K. Venkatasubbamma Computer Centre. (All recognised by the Government of Karnataka). • Simha Subbamahalakshmi First Grade College (Affiliated to the University of Mysore). • GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women. • GSSS Institute of Management Sciences.

He was a Member of the Senate and Finance Committee, University of Mysore (1980-1983, 1983-1986 and 1991-1994).

He was also the Hon-Secretary of the Managements Association of Aided and Un-aided Institutions of Mysore City and District and Chamarajanagar District, Mysore from 1993 till date.

Prof. Pandit was the former Vice-President of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Mysore Kendra which began its activities in its earlier days at GSSS premises.
