Five including two women injured in police firing in Manipur
Imphal, Nov 4 (UNI) Altogether five people including two women were injured when police resorted to firing today at Lilong in Thoubal district.
A large number of people came out at Lilong and blocked NH 39 demanding transfer of an official for alleged misuse of fund.
As the protestors blocked highway putting up barricades, police tried to stop them. However they refused to budge.
They also threw stones, fired catapults on the police.
Police then fired rubber bullets, tear gas shells and bullets in the air injuring five people.
Manipur Anganwadi Mahila Organization (MAMO) had called an indefinite bandh in Thoubal District today alleging that the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Thoubal district had misused the fund.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot.
Later some members of the MAMO were allowed to meet Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh following which the agitators allowed free flow of the vehicles on the highway.
