Puducherry, Nov 4: Welcoming the decision of the Puducherry Administration to grant 22 functions to the elected representatives of the village and commune panchayats, PMK Parliamentary Party M Ramadass on Tuesday, Nov 4 urged the administration to ensure financial powers to them. In a statement here, Prof Ramadas said the government should expedite efforts in getting funds from the Home Ministry,13th Finance Commission and the Union Panchayati Raj Ministry.
Criticising the previous Rangasamy Government for not taking any efforts in this regard,Prof Ramadass said if the powers were devolved at the time of elections, several development works could have been completed by this time in villages.
Taking exception to leaving out Municipalities, Prof Ramdoss urged the administration to take immediate steps to devolve powers to the elected representatives of Municipalities also.
In another statement,Prof Ramadass urged the adminsitration to regularise the service of 145 lecturers here.
He claimed it was not proper for the UPSC to invite them for an interview even after Madras High Court directed their regularisation and the Supreme Court rejecting the appeal by UPSC on the High Court verdict.
Hence, the Puducherry Administration should take stpes to regularise their service forthwith,he said.
