Vijayawada, Nov 4: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday, Nov 4 alleged that the ongoing coastal corridor project of the Andhra Pradesh government only benefitted the industrialists and business magnets. Addressing a press conference here, party Krishna district unit secretary Umamaheswara Rao alleged that the state government had forcibly acquired five lakh areas of land in the nine coastal villages under the guise of coastal corridor development project.

He criticised the government for issuing various statements over the costal corridor project.

While Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had said that the project was for the development of the roads in the coastal districts, his cabinet colleagues said the project was mainly for the development of the industrial estates there, he added.

He also alleged that the project would affect the livelihood of lakh of fishermen and marine produce due to the building up of the petro chemicals industries in the corridor.

The party would organise a protest march against the project from November eight to 15 to create awareness among the villagers, he added.
