Lucknow, Nov 4 (UNI) After being in much controversy over the cancellation of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's scheduled visit to the Chandrashekhar Azad Agriculture University in Kanpur recently, its Vice Chancellor V K Suri resigned today.
According to Raj Bhawan sources, Uttar Pradesh Governor and chancellor of the varsity T V Rajeswar has accepted Mr Suri's resignation and asked the Registrar of the university to take the charge of the VC.
The VC has, however, cited no specific reason for his step.
Mr Suri had hit the headlines when he had brought a last minute change in Mr Gandhi's shceduled programme at the Chandrashekhar Azad Agriculture University during his visit to Kanpur on October 24.
Giving clarification into the matter, he had then said that the Amethi MP's programme had been changed due to security reasons as the varsity also had its convocation the very same day.
In a hassle, the Governor, who was about to attend the convocation as the chief guest, had also cancelled his visit and also sought clarification into the change in Mr Gandhi's programme from the officials.
Earlier, it was reported that the VC's action of bringing a change in Mr Gandhi's programme was on the behest of the UP government, but later the state governmnet had denied its hand and termed it a matter of concern of the university.
Despite all the hurdles, the Congress leader had, however, met the students of the university in the canteen.
