UNMM, NE Dialogue Forum appeal to check violence in NE
Imphal, Nov 3 (UNI) The United NGOs Mission, Manipur (UNMM) and North East Dialogue Forum here today said people of the region are becoming victims of violence due to the endless killings.
'' Altogether 17 people were killed and over 35 injured in a bomb blast near the barracks of security forces here on October 21,'' the NGO sources in a joint press conference informed.
Most of the injured victims were still in a serious condition at various hospitals in the city, sources added.
Serial bomb blasts that rocked Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon on October 30 killed 81 people and injured over 300.
A bomb attack at the Palace Gate in Agartala killed two people on October 1 and injured more than 40 people.
Two people including a woman were killed on October 23 at Naorijan in Assam when the bus they were travelling in was torched by suspected Kuki militants, sources said.
These organisations also appealed to all to protect the lives of the people.
The president of UNMM, Rev Tamthing Ruivanao appealed to stop violence and urged the Government of India to provide protection of life to the civilians.
The two organisations also opposed militarisation of the region in the name of fighting militancy.
