Phagwara Nov 3 (UNI) Newly formed Special Investigation Team visited Kapurthla Jail and met television reporter Ashwini Malhotra who was arrested on October 28 on the charges of blackmailing LPU officials Ramesh Mittal and his son Aman.
The team, including SP Upinderjit Singh Ghuman and Navjot Singh Mahal, visited the sites including Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus, where alleged gang rape of a girl took place.
The detailed report was soon expected from SIT. It was also learnt that SIT failed to recover Malhotra's laptop.
The SIT was searching for a CD prepared from the tape of video camera of Malhotra to get detailed informations about the episode which had created confrontation between media and the police here.
Meanwhile, Journalists of Jalandhar, Phagwara, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana sat on a dharna and held demonstrations before the LPU, Chiherru main Gate in Phagwara sub division this afternoon.
They wore black wadges and raised slogans against the ''excesses committed by the police and LPU management'' and demanded a high-level probe into the reports of alleged gang rape of a girl in university campus.
They also said that thourough investigations be conducted before registering case against any scribe, as assured by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
They were also demanding protection of the independence of Press.
