Mumbai, Nov 3 (UNI) The month-long 'Madhya Pradesh festival', to promote the state as a tourist destination, was inaugurated by the State Tourism Development Coporation Managing Director Ashwini Lohani here today.
Addressing mediapersons after the inauguration, Lohani said that the Madhya Pradesh was the richest state in terms of tourist attractions in the country.
The tourism department has increased its turnover from Rs 13 crore in 2003-04 to Rs 42 crore in 2007-08, he said.
Mr Lohani said the corporation has kept aside forty plots for private sector investment in the state, which would be given on lease basis. The plots would be for amusement parks and hotels.
He said the corporation is waiting for big private firms to come forward for investment even though small concerns have evinced interest.
The corporation will organise cultural programmes in different places in the city during the festival, he added.
The state is home to an amazing variety of wildlife. In its nine National parks and 22 sanctuaries, one can encounter not just the tiger, but at least 20 other species of mammals and over 250 species of birds.
