Chennai, Nov 3 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said the people of the state were prepared even to sacrifice their lives to protect their brethren in Sri Lanka and appealed to people to contribute liberally to the Lankan Tamils Relief Fund.
Penning a poem on the plight of Tamils in the island, Mr Karunanidhi said to save the Tamils from the war ravaged areas in Lanka, the people of Tamil Nadu were ''willing to give their hearts'' and if necessary, even their lives.
The Chief Minister, who had launched a Relief Fund for the Lankan Tamils, renewed his appeal to the people to contribute liberally to the Fund, ignoring the disinformation campaign launched by the opposition leaders.
He appealed to the people to ignore the remarks made by a ''brother'' (MDMK General secretary Vaiko) that the collection of relief fund was a drama and the remarks of ''Ammaiyar'' (AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa) that the funds would be diverted to the LTTE.
He said the governmnet was taking steps to utilise the funds to purchase food and clothes and proposed to despatch the relief materials to the suffering Tamils through international organisations.
