Elderly man killed in robbery bid, wife battling for life

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) A 75-year-old railway official (retd) was killed and his wife seriously injured when four men attacked them during a robbery bid in New Friends Colony area of South Delhi early today.

While Madan Mohan Gulati was declared 'brought dead' when rushed to the hospital by the police, his wife Indraprabha (72) -- a retired teacher -- is battling for life in the ICU, according to police.

About four men entered the Gulatis' Sukhdev Vihar ground floor residence on Mathura Road around 0130 hrs after scaling the wall.

The robbers attacked the couple with the kitchen knife after Mohan Gulati resisted their bid to rob the house.

Hearing the commotion, Gulatis' first floor tenants informed the police which took them to the hospital.

Police said robbery seems to be the motive as Rs 20,000 cash and jewellery was missing, adding that some suspects were being questioned.

According to sources, the couple have a son, Vivek, and a daughter, Namrata, both settled in the US.
